Art Inspires

For each individual, art has a different meaning - for one person art may inspire creativity, for another art may inspire a feeling of understanding and tolerance, and yet for another, it may inspire their sense of community. Whether you are creating, viewing or listening to art, art is a truly individual and personal experience. While art is personal, it is often experienced in a communal setting such as a theatre, gallery or, in the case of public art, in the public areas of a city. Regardless of the venue, what is wonderful about art is how it can engage, evoke, empower. Art also lives on, beyond the limits of time, to carry forward our story, our fears, joys, images.

The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation assures this longevity by offering donors multiple opportunities to support the vibrant arts organizations in our community through charitable giving. Our Art Inspires! Endowment Fund was established by a gift from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation and is the perfect fund for donors who wish to support art grants that are responsive and flexible to the needs of local arts organizations. The Art Inspires! Fund accepts gifts in any amount. All gifts are endowed to benefit the arts forever.

The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation is proud to announce the inaugural year of grantmaking from the Holser Educational Fund for the Arts. This endowed fund, established by Clifford B. Holser, supports education in the performing arts for young people in grades 3 to 12 who live in the San Luis Obispo area. Grant awards will focus on programs that expand arts participation and impacts young artists and audiences through arts education thus contributing to the cultural development of the community.

Grants to Organizations: Through a competitive granting program, local non-profit arts organizations will be awarded grants.

Grants to Individual Artists: A series of mini-grants will be awarded to individual artists in order to help them continue and expand their artistic abilities. This program will be administered through the Arts Obispo, SLO County Arts Council.
Outreach to Donors: A portion of the grant will be used to assist the Foundation to raise matching funds as well as reach out to existing and potential donors regarding the needs of the arts in our community. In addition, this outreach will focus on fundraising for arts organizations with agency endowment funds currently held at the Community Foundation.

Nonprofit Training: Arts organizations will benefit from a series of low cost training sessions developed specifically for the arts Boards of Directors, staff, volunteers and artists.
