San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation
Annual San Luis Obispo County Environmental Awards

The San Luis Obispo County Environmental Awards were created to recognize individuals and organizations showing ecological concern for our local community.

Goal: The purpose of the San Luis Obispo County Environmental Awards is to recognize and reward an individual, group or organization that has made a worthwhile contribution to the betterment of the environment or ecology of San Luis Obispo County during the past calendar year.

Each year, awards are made in three categories:

Environmental Achievement of the Year - honoring an individual or group that made the single most important environmental contribution in the prior year;

Sustained Environmental Contribution - honoring a sustained body of environmental activism, by an individual or group, that has taken place over a period of time;

Environmental Initiative - honoring a unique or innovative environmental effort by an individual or group.

Recognition: A certificate of recognition, along with a cash award will be presented to that individual, group or organization. Award amounts: $3,000 for Environmental Achievement of the Year; $2,000 for Sustained Environmental Contribution; $1,000 for Environmental Initiative.

Eligibility: As long as the environmental contribution is of benefit to San Luis Obispo County, any individual who works in, or is a resident of, San Luis Obispo County is eligible for one of the awards. Any group or organization headquartered or operating in San Luis Obispo County is also eligible.

Nomination and Selection Process: Nominees for the awards are solicited from the public at large. The winner is chosen by the Awards Selection Committee consisting of Shirley Bianchi; Kara Blakeslee, American Land Conservancy; Neil Havlik, City of San Luis Obispo; Marla Morrissey, Morro Estuary Greenbelt Alliance; Ann Robinson; Steve Sinton, California Rangeland Trust . Candidates for the awards will be presented to the Awards Committee and the winner will be chosen by a simple majority vote of the committee.
