Establish a Fund

Fund Options
Whether you are starting a new fund, or simply wish to help meet the needs of our community, the Community Foundation makes giving simple by offering a variety of ways to carry out charitable intentions. Regardless, the principal of every endowed gift is kept in perpetuity, while the income generated is distributed according to the donors' wishes.

The Community Foundation offers a variety of ways to carry out your charitable intention. We have the following types of funds available.

Designated
These funds provide ongoing assistance to specific non-profit organizations, which are monitored to ensure that they fulfill the purposes that donors intended to support.

Field of Interest
This fund allows the donor to support a broad area such as education, health, social services, cultural affairs, children and youth, historic preservation, or environmental conservation. Rather than lock a fund into a narrow issue, a field-of-interest allows the Community Foundation to respond to the community's most pressing needs.

Unrestricted
Unrestricted gifts are held in perpetuity, producing annual income that is used by the Foundation to meet community priorities as they arise. These funds are awarded to organizations through the Foundation's Grants Program, following careful review by Foundation staff, community leaders, and the Board of Directors.

Donor-Advised
Annual distributions are made from each Donor-Advised Fund based on advice from the donor with the final decision resting with the Board of Directors. This type of fund allows the donor to retain the right to suggest specific projects in any field of interest while avoiding administrative complexities of a private foundation.

Agency Endowment
Non-profit organizations can establish their own endowment funds to be held and managed by the Community Foundation, which makes regular reports and distributions to the agency. This allows non-profit organizations to utilize the Foundation as a means of endowing its work in the future and receiving sound investment returns as part of a larger pool of funds.

Scholarship
Donors can create a scholarship fund to honor or memorialize an individual or serve a specific purpose that is important to the donor. Scholarships can enable students to pursue traditional higher education or vocational training. Income from the endowment provides the scholarships each year.
