Our Mission

The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation is a public trust established to assist donors in building an enduring source of charitable funds to meet the changing needs and interests of the community.

Our Vision

As residents of San Luis Obispo County, we are a thriving, engaged society that is responsible for ourselves and for one another, for our diverse communities, and for maintaining the beauty, productivity, and sustainability of our environment.

Building for the Future

Agency Endowment Guide

As part of our overall effort to build philanthropy in the community, the SLO County Community Foundation has developed an agency endowment guide to help nonprofit organizations create permanent endowments and add to their current endowment fund.  The guide may be downloaded (369K PDF) and shared with Board Members and Development Committees as a tool for stabilizing future operating revenues.

Real Estate Foundation

The Real Estate Foundation of San Luis Obispo County is a separate public benefit corporation formed by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation. The Foundation exists to accept donations of real property, with the proceeds designated for local charities, including but not restricted to the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation. This separate organization was created because real estate transactions can be time-consuming and involve a certain amount of risk and liability. Most charitable organizations are unwilling to accept donations of real property. The Real Estate Foundation, as a separate corporation, insulates charities from liability associated with a donated property, and deals with the time-consuming and expensive aspects of the transaction.

Nonprofit Support

The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation supports the work of local non-profit organizations through capacity building activities such as sponsorship of an FC Search Database, roundtable convenings, and provision of trainings and workshops.

San Luis Obispo County Funder Links

The Community Foundation seeks to support organizations and programs across a diverse array of funding and geographic areas. However, foundation funds are a finite resource. In an effort to assist local organizations, the Foundation has collaborated with a number of local funders to develop this directory. Please note that this is not guaranteed to be a comprehensive list and information can change at anytime. The Foundation will make every effort to regularly update and amend this list.
